Ryan Kidd answers commonly raised questions and objections.

"What about a woman who is pregnant as a result of rape. Don't you support abortion in this case since the woman became pregnant as a result of a violent criminal act?"

This is a truly tragic circumstance, and the full weight of the law should be enforced to remove rapists from society. However, we must carefully weigh the two factors of justice and compassion in this case. The woman is an innocent party, but so is the baby which was conceived in rape. It is therefore unjust to take the life of the baby. To abort the baby, would also cause harm to the mother. The compassionate choice would be to offer practical assistance to the mother throughout her pregnancy and to put the baby up for adoption if there are insufficient resources to raise the child.

"Why are you trying to force your religious beliefs on the rest of society?"

This is a commonly held misconception that Christians involved in politics are acting unfairly in promoting their religiously based morality in the context of neutral secular politics. But upon closer examination every brand of morality has religious underpinnings, and it's a question of whose morality is right. Just as the secularist promotes a system of morality based on his view of ultimate authority, so the Christian promotes the system of moral principles based on his ultimate authority, the Word of God.

"Why should I vote for you; you're not going to win anyway"

Everyone in a democratic electoral system is responsible to vote for the best candidate. If the other candidates refuse to take a right stance on significant moral issues then you cannot in good conscience give them your vote.

"You are taking votes from the the best candidate who has a chance of winning. Now the worst candidate may win because of you."

This criticism bears some truth, and reflects an imbalance in our electoral system. The Family Coalition Party promotes electoral reform to add a component of proportional representation to the system. However, even if the least worst candidate loses due to votes taken by the Family Coalition Party that sends a strong message to parties in power that social conservatives are a significant voting block.
